In northwest PA, the sun is “skittish” so optical protection is normally only needed during summer. Regardless of the season, Great Lakes is providing protection all year round.
This outdoor fiber distribution hub (FDH) serves as the point between a service provider’s central office and subscribers in a fiber-to-the-home setup. Depending on the size of the enclosure, the FDH can hold hundreds of fiber optical cables, allowing distribution to hundreds of subscribers. This specific enclosure was manufactured to have shelves with obrounds (as specified by the customer) to hold and facilitate optical connector ports. Because the hub is placed outside in an uncontrolled environment, the enclosure underwent multiple tests for optical monitoring, functional design and application-specific situations and environmental criteria.
