Years at GLCC: 34 years

What’s the coolest GLCC project you’ve been part of?
That’s a difficult one because there are so many. One that stands out is a large suite for a major multinational company where we had a lot of restrictions relating to accessibility, weight restrictions on floor tiles, ventilation, air flow and side-to-side cooling. With clever implementation of special Great Lakes features, we were able to offer a full solution that satisfied all aspects of the inquiry. This won us the business and we are still heavily involved in the project, offering additional solutions as they arise. 

When friends and family ask what you do all day, what do you tell them?
I tell them that I am responsible for supporting their Internet access and social media accounts; they can certainly relate to that. Otherwise, I would bore them with technical jargon. 

What’s the #1 “rookie mistake” you see in those just starting out their career in your field? Explain.
I often see young sales people trying too hard to win business and not having enough patience to understand customer needs.

What’s the single most important ingredient when it comes to a successful client relationship?
Honesty. 

How would you describe your approach to tackling challenges when it comes to the client?
Support, honesty, and loyalty. If you can offer all three approaches, you will always be ahead of the competition.

GLCC is all about providing custom solutions for their clients – what’s the most out-there problem you had to solve and how?
We had a situation a few years back where one of the top multinational pharmaceutical companies got confused when converting from Imperial spec to Metric spec for the European market. A big issue arose when they were 66mm short in the depth of the rack during the calculation and couldn’t duplicate the same set-up as the U.S. At one point they considered changing all 75 server racks at an enormous cost when, during a high-powered conference call, I was able to offer a custom build 100mm extension for the rear of the rack to facilitate equipment and PDUs.

How would your clients describe working with you and your team?
Great Lakes International is almost always received very favorably due to the additional  support we offer and the extra steps we take to help the client on all aspects of the inquiry or project.

What do you wish someone had told you when you were first starting out?
Patience. I had to learn the hard way.

What’s the most exciting trend you see really taking hold in the coming 2 years?
Security is by far the # 1 trend within our territory. We offer multiple intelligent access control solutions and, coupled with our SEAL® portfolio, we have been able to meet various security needs.

How would you describe the company culture at GLCC?
Family oriented. This has always been a strong feature from the top management down.

What show are you currently binge watching or what’s next up in the queue?
I’m a big sports fan and not too much into box sets. I will happily watch two flies on a wall being competitive trying to win a race to the top. 

If you had a personal motto, what would it be?
“Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.”
